SNAGIT



SNAGIT AN INTRO
SnagIt is a screenshot program that operates under the Windows operating system.

DRAWING TOOLS
Tools which are used for creation of objects are mentioned below.

Call out     
Arrow       
Stamp       
Pen           
Highlight   
Text          
Line          
Shape   
   
Tools which are used for editing the captured images are as follows,

Selection             
Fill                           
Eraser               
    
When an object becomes flattened, then it is a part of the captured image, which cannot be edited separately from the capture. 

STYLE GALLERY
It consists of the default style of the selected tool.  The tools can be customized using the settings such as Outline, Fill and Effects.

OUTLINE
This menu helps in setting the appearance of call outs and shapes

Style, color and width of tools such as line and arrow is determined with  the help of Outline tool.

The brush shape of the pen and eraser tool is selected using the sub menu of shape.

WIDTH determines the thickness of the line.

SHAPE is used to select the pen and eraser shape.

DASHES are meant for the selection of line style for shape, line and arrow tools. 

ENDS are used for selecting the rounded or square ends of the arrows and lines.

FILL
It is used for filling the colors.

Gradient is meant for selecting the call out style. It includes no gradient, glassy or shaded.

Tolerance is used to control how the surrounding color matches well with that of the filled color. 

EFFECTS

It includes shadow; create as vector, antialias and opacity.

SHADOW helps is creating a drop shadow to the selected object.

CREATE AS VECTOR does the creation of drawing tools as objects on the canvas. If this is deselected, then every object that is drawn on the captured image becomes a part of capture and can’t be edited.

ANTIALIAS helps in softening the edges of the object on the captured image.

OPACITY enables the selection of opacity level for the tool or object which is selected.

MINI TOOLBAR 

It is meant for quick access for changing the style settings of the object.

To save the most commonly used styles, right click of the object, select “add to quick styles”.

TEXT CAPTURE

Capture of text anywhere from the screen is performed by text capture mode. Captured text format may be of RTF or TXT.

To perform a text capture, change the Mode button (blue) which is next to the Capture button (red).

To switch between TXT and RTF text, select Profile settings pane and output and properties and text file tab.

To format the layout, open profile settings pane, select effects and layout and text layout options. 

EDITNG OF TEXT can be done by using the text tab. It has 3 groups, 

CLIPBOARD consists of the options like copy all, copy, cut and paste.

FORMAT consists of font and standard text editing tools.

ALL IN ONE CAPTURE

Select the screen that has to be captured, capture it using the capture button.

The captured window title bar transparency can be changed by selecting profile settings pane and input drop down and properties and general tab.

Transparency is of three types,
Clean title bar, transparent title bar and actual title bar.

SCROLLING WINDOW

Scrolling buttons become visible when Snagit identifies a scrollable area in a window.

There are three types of profiles in Snagit; they are image, video and text. Select the image profile. Choose the capture button or the hot key <PRINT SCREEN>.

TO CAPTURE A REGION

Select then drag over the screen with crosshairs to choose a region. Press on the M to turn-on the magnifier to attain pixel accuracy.

TO CAPTURE A WINDOW
Move the mouse cursor across the window to capture. When the orange border appears around the window, then select the window.

TO CAPTURE SCROLLING AREA
Use the keyboard shortcut, H for selection of horizontal scroll, V for selection of vertical scroll, B for selection of the entire area.

CUSTOM SCROLL - CAPTURE
In the profile settings pane, right-click on All-in-One, select Advanced and Custom Scroll. This allows the selection and capture of the scrolling areas.

SCROLLING REGION - CAPTURE
In the profile settings pane, right-click on All-in-One, select Advanced and Scrolling Region. This allows the selection and capture of the scrolling areas.

COPY is used to copy the selection to the clipboard (ctrl+c). If it is pasted in Snagit Editor, then it is pasted as vector object over the canvas. 

CUT is used to cut the selection out of the canvas and it is moved to the clipboard. If it is pasted in Snagit Editor, then it is pasted as vector object over the canvas. 

DRAG means dragging, such as cut, remove and placing it into a fresh location. This makes the dragged object to be a part of the canvas after it is being removed and deselected i.e. it cannot be edited.

CLONE means dragging the selected object and moving a copy of it to the new area by holding <ctrl>. This makes the dragged object to be a part of the canvas after it is being removed and deselected i.e. it cannot be edited.

DIFFERENT FILE FORMATS

SNAG
Editing is possible even after saving. It cannot be viewed apart from Snagit. Sharing is not possible.

PNG
Sharing of images in power point presentations, online and documents is possible. It is lossless and when compressed, it gives exactly the same quality as an uncompressed image.  It provides better quality and reasonable file size.

JPG
It is most widely used format. It is a lossy format which produces a degraded image after compressed.

GIF
It supports limited colors and animation. It can handle small file size.

BMP
It is a lossless format. It does not compress file. Snagit does not support the BMP files transparency.

TIF
TIF – Tagged Image Format. It is used while image scanning and when drag and drop of the images on MAC OS X.

PDF
Captures of Snagit can be saved in PDF format. “Keep web links active” option is enabled; the hyperlink information is captured and saved as part of the capture. So, after saving it as a PDF, the links in the image appear active and point towards its original destination. After saving it is PDF format, that PDF file cannot be reopened in Snagit.

VECTOR OBJECTS & SELECTION
Area which is used for preview and edit of capture is known as CANVAS.

Objects can be edited on Canvas.
Select the object to the edited.

MOVE - drag the object to place it in the new position.

RE SIZE - handle can be dragged in or out to re size the object.

FLIP -   Image tab consists of the rotate option, then select flip and horizontal or vertical.

FLATTEN - to flatten the capture (after flattening, images cannot be edited), right click on the object and click flatten.

CAPTURE FILES

Customized capture files can be created using “add new profile wizard”. This can be done by selecting the desired mode, type, effects and output and this creates a new Snagit profile.
There are 8 default profiles in Snagit. They are image profile, video profile, text profile, share via screen cast.com profile, gray scale and reduce to 50% profile, 10-second delay profile, insert into word with border profile and add time/date caption profile.

HOT KEYS

Image capture
Start capture - <PRINT SCREEN>
Start region selection - SHIFT+ENTER

Video capture
Start capture - <PRINT SCREEN>
Start, pause or resume recording - SHIFT+F9
To stop recording - SHIFT+F10

CAPTURING OF TEXT

Choose the text profile, click on the record button and capture an image. Only the text would get captured. Add desired style to the text, select the text and click on “copy all” option. This allows pasting the text directly into a word document.

ONE CLICK
Snagit allows the user to capture image by a single click. In the quick launch tab, select “turn on one click”. The Snagit one click window opens and normal capture process can be done.
