HOW TO WORK WITH HELP MAKER



Help maker is used for creating help files. Every software application is issued with a help file. These help files guide the user to use the software.
Help files can be created using help maker, acrobat and Microsoft word. Help maker is the most commonly used software for creating help files. It is an user friendly software which allows the user to create a help file in a much easier way.


CREATION OF HELP FILE USING HELP MAKER 7.0


Open help maker.

Click on “New” option.

Select “Create a new Help Maker Project” option from the dropdown.
Click on “Next” button.



Give a name and click “Next’ button.

 
Click “Finish” button, a new help file is created. On the left side of the screen, document map in the form
of tree is displayed with its own default format.
 
Document map consists of the document title, headings and subheadings.
In order to add titles or child, right click on the heading and select any of the following options,
Add Before
Add After
Add Child

TO ADD A HEADING:




To add a heading after a particular heading, right click on that heading and select “Add After” option.



To add a heading, select the “Chapter” option and enter a name for that heading and click “OK”.

Now a new heading is created. 


The user can move the heading to any position by clicking on that heading and drag it to the desired position.

TO ADD A CHILD:
Right click on the heading where a new child has to be added and select “Add child”.

Choose the option “Topic” in the dialog box, enter a name for the child and click “OK”.


A new child is created as shown above.
Type the required contents for the help file by selecting every node of the tree, i.e. choose the respective headings and child and input the required contents.
Select the document title in the document map.


Choose “Project” option and check “HTML-help” and “HTML-website” options to get the help file in both help file and website formats.
Choose “HTML Help” option and check “Binary TOC File”. Then press F9 to compile the file.
Now the help file gets compiled and the output file is ready for the view.
